Modi Contacts Middle East Leaders Over Regional Sovereignty Concerns

(MENAFN) Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke Tuesday with the leaders of Oman, Kuwait, and Qatar to express concern over violations of their “sovereignty and territorial integrity” amid ongoing tensions involving the US, Israel, and Iran, as stated by reports.

Modi said in posts on US social media company X that he held discussions with Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Sabah. The conversations focused on the evolving situation following Saturday’s US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran, which killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and 786 others, including schoolchildren.

He said he “condemned the violation” of the three nations’ sovereignty and territorial integrity. The leaders emphasized the importance of ongoing diplomatic engagement. Modi added that he and the Kuwaiti Crown Prince “underscored the significance of dialogue and diplomacy in restoring regional peace and stability.”

Earlier, Modi conducted similar calls with the leaders of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The weekend strikes also resulted in deaths of Iranian military personnel and officials.

In retaliation, Tehran launched drone and missile attacks on US-linked facilities in Gulf countries, causing multiple fatalities, including six US service members, and injuring others.
