Putin praises Russian Orthodox Church for its charity work
“This wonderful holiday illuminates the world with the light of kindness and love, giving millions hope and the joy of belonging to ancestral spiritual traditions passed down from generation to generation,” Putin said in a message released by the Kremlin.
He emphasized that the Russian Orthodox Church, along with other Christian denominations, plays a “tremendous and unique role” in fostering social unity, strengthening patriotism, and preserving Russia’s “rich historical and cultural legacy.”
Putin noted that religious organizations are actively involved in charity and assistance for veterans, stating, “This important work deserves the utmost recognition.” He has consistently stressed the importance of safeguarding and promoting traditional spiritual and moral values as well as advancing Russian culture domestically and internationally. In 2022, he signed a decree directing state institutions to counter what the government described as “destructive ideologies.”
